1st of May this year will not be just a symbol of the global labor movements and protection of human social rights, but also a time to celebrate one more chapter launch. The next pin on our global movement map is Bulgaria.

Founded in the 7th century, Bulgaria is one of the oldest states on the European continent. The country is remarkable for its variety of scenery; its rugged mountains and relaxing Black Sea resorts attract many visitors. Women in Tech Bulgaria opens two offices in the country – the main one will be in the capital city of Sofia and the second one is on the seaside – in Varna.

The launch date of the Bulgarian chapter has been chosen symbolically and is related to the global mission of Women In Tech – women’s empowerment and the right to quality education, social equality, entrepreneurial skills and encouraging women to take part more actively in science and technology.

Local ambassadors and chairpersons of Women in Tech – Bulgaria are the founder of DigitalKidZ Foundation and well-known consultant in growth marketing and business development Mrs Ivelina Atanasova – Genchev, Mrs Justine Toms, the woman who has been developing the Bulgarian web ecosystem since the late 90s and Mrs Dimi Ilieva, Marketing Director of the Bulgarian fintech company MyPOS and a certified business coach, who will lead and develop the Varna community of Women in Tech – Bulgaria.

The three ladies share that leading a Women in Tech Chapter has been a natural development, both in their career and in all personal projects in the last ten years.

“It’s important to talk openly about the role and the place of women in technology business. It is time more girls and ladies of all ages know they do not have to write code to be successful in STEM. We want to debunk some old myths, to focus on inspiring career examples of ladies in tech and to build a community to support, develop and change together the public opinion and stereotypes,” said the founders of the Bulgarian Chapter.
